Tonight's Bible Talk has me thinking about how strong is my foundation of faith. The topic tonight was actually how do you master the skills needed to have a strong foundation of faith.
Here are the notes I took from tonight's study:
What does it take to be a master a skill or something?
Let's read this Scripture passage found in Matthew 7:24-27:

What does it take to be a master a skill or something?
Let's read this Scripture passage found in Matthew 7:24-27:
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
To master a skill or something requires one to practice.
What happens if you don’t practice the skills to master big skill? Then you won't gain the skill you wanted to have. It's require discipline on your part to continue to practice.
What happens if your foundation is strong? It holds. What happens if your foundation is weak? It falls apart.

46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”
~Luke 6:46-49
What does Jesus want us to put into practice to become wise? Read and study the Bible. Apply those teachings into your life and make wise decisions.
How do we love God? Prayer, worship and obeying him.
It takes discipline to have the foundation of faith needed to face life. Daily practice helps build the foundation in knowledge and skills to master the big skill you want to have.
How do we obey God?
Listening and do what’s right. Find other friends who can hold you accountable. A teacher can help you understand the Word if you don’t have a lot of knowledge yet. Spending time with God every day and listen for his voice and follow through with actions. Studying the Bible helps one build a foundation of knowledge of who God is, his character and his boundaries/rules/laws for us.
It’s important to be vulnerable to God and to people to let them in and grow your relationship with them.

10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care.
~1 Corinthians 3:10
How are we ready for the floods of storms of life? What do you need to prepare to safeguard your home (aka spiritual foundation)?
It’s time to prepare to build your foundation. It’s time to strengthen your spiritual foundation to help you face the challenges of life.
I like to add some more Bible verses to continue from 1 Corinthians 3:11-15 to help us understand on what kind of foundation we need to keep our faith strong.

11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.
To have a strong foundation of faith, you need Jesus Christ. Reading the Scripture above, what else sticks out to you? What is your work build on? As a builder and your foundation and works survives, what reward do you think you will earn? How can you be saved when suffering loss?
How firm is your foundation?

Where do you place your hope?
