This is my first Christian blog. Last Saturday, I was able to accompany a group of youth from my home church to the Acquire the Fire Youth Conference in Eugene, OR.
The first session we learned about brokenness, how it impacts your life and God does heal your wounds so you can live a better life. Brokenness are events either from your early life or later in life which is full of trauma and adversaries. Some of these hardships aren't your doing.
Below are my notes from Ron Luce’s speech on April 12, 2014 about brokenness:
Brokenness can affect you. How do you let these hardships affect you? Do you choose God to help you through it? Accepting the lies, you lose something. In doing so, it affects your relationships.
The enemy gets you to focus on your brokenness to stop you from your relationship with God.
You start building coping and defensive skills to block the pain. These walls you erect prevent you from a real relationship with Christ.
Guarding your heart by isolating yourself from people is a defense mechanism. This kind of brokenness affect on how you interact in your relationships. Even when a good one comes along, you still can’t get intimate. You listen to the lie that you’re unlovable. The cycle of brokenness continues when you let lies flourish.
For the young women, reflect on these questions. Can guys respect you fully? Will they treat you right? No, if you believe you are so bad. With this lie, you accept that it’s fine when a young man abuses you. The enemy keeps you trapped so you can’t full enjoy good relationships or enter the good ones.
A lie you tell yourself: “I can’t trust God.” It’s all about perspective. Letting the lies be seen as truth. The truth is to study and accept God’s promise and the truth.
What lies do you believe in?
The Lie: You are alone.
The Truth: You aren’t all alone. God is with you always.

Let Jesus in and trust God’s promises. Focus your relationship with him. You can see the truth. The Lord help you face your adversity so you heal and grow in the Lord. When you let God work in you, you can overcome those hardships.
The truth:
I am a child of the King. I’m the apple of God’s eyes. If your emotions and thoughts block you from seeing the truth, you can’t fully accept the truth. Only God can heal your brokenness.
Hardships abroad:
American Christians have difficulties understanding the hardships and brokenness abroad. Many people of the world never heard of Jesus. They struggle to just survive for many are living lives without hope. Christians are the commission. They are to spread God’s Word.
How can American teenagers be active in the commission?
The Challenge:
This summer, spend a week or more in missionary work. Pray to God about your desires to complete this endeavor. Listen to where God leads you. Let your light shine through you, child of God.
